My Story
Taking Up Space Consulting was founded in honor of Robert Lee Davis Jr., whose life was defined by hard work, thoughtful planning, financial responsibility, authenticity, and an unwavering commitment to his word. He believed that success is built through discipline, preparation, and doing what you say you will do—values that continue to guide our work today.
His example taught us that lasting impact is not created by chance. It is created through intentional decisions, responsible stewardship of resources, honest leadership, and a commitment to follow through. These principles form the foundation of how we help organizations strengthen their finances, align their operations, develop their leaders, and build the capacity required to achieve Sustainable Impact™.
At Taking Up Space Consulting, we believe that organizations thrive when strategy is backed by accountability, vision is supported by planning, and leadership is grounded in integrity. That belief is part of the legacy Robert Lee Davis Jr. left behind—and the legacy we strive to honor through every client engagement.
Taking Up Space Consulting is led by Taquisha "Kisha" Smith, a strategic executive with more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience, including over a decade in financial planning and analysis, business operations, organizational development, governance, and executive advisory roles supporting mission-driven organizations at scale.
This combination of financial expertise, operational leadership, governance experience, and implementation capability positions the firm uniquely to bridge the gap between strategic planning and sustainable execution.
